Windows Process Description:

The Microsoft Windows CE Services is the software generally included with handheld PCs. It is a communication interface between the handheld device and a Windows desktop or notebook computer. When the software package is installed on the computer, it allows you to transmit information to and from the handheld device as well as perform basic functions on the handheld device from the computer desktop.

The aatp.dll module is also known as the Mobile Channel Transport Protocol. This module is an essential component of the Windows CE Services software.

The aatp.dll module receives data from the handheld device and communicates it to the operating system and the Windows CE Services program file. Windows CE Services provides the following services to a connected Handheld PC:

* ActiveSync(tm) technology (continuous automatic synchronization)

* Conversion of files between desktop and H/PC formats

* Add/Remove H/PC programs

* Backup and restore H/PC data

* Built-in synchronization support for e-mail, files, and Pocket Outlook data

The file aatp.dll can also be found with ActiveSync 3.X. ActiveSync is similar to Microsoft's Windows CE Services. It allows you to maintain the same information on the desktop as on the handheld device. Its important feature is to keep information up to date automatically. The aatp.dll module compares the ActiveSync database on the computer with the handheld device's database and ensures that information is kept in 'sync'.

If the aatp.dll in the system32 folder of any windows operating system is missing or corrupted, programs like the Mobile Channel Transport Protocol of Microsoft Windows CE Services and ActiveSync 3.X won't register any handheld device connected to the Windows operating system network
