The ac3enc.dll module is the simplest ac3 (Audio Coding 3) encoder and is a part of FFmpeg's software libraries. FFmpeg is a compilation of freeware and software libraries that is capable of recording, converting and streaming audio and video in various formats. The name FFmpeg was derived from "FF", which stands for "fast forward" and appended with "MPEG" for the video standard. The author of the module ac3enc.dll was Fabrice Bellard, using the pseudonym Gerard Lantau. Fabrice Bellard, a computer programmer, is more popularly known as the founder of FFmpeg as well as the project leader for QEMU (a freeware processor emulator). The module ac3enc.dll is one of the various ac3 encoders that have been developed. AC-3 also known as Dolby Digital is a digital audio codec that decreases the size of data that is required to produce high quality audio. The codec takes advantage on how humans perceive sound. The AC3 codec provides five channels for speakers, namely front left, front right, center, surround left and surround right with the normal range of 20 Hz - 2000 Hz.

The file ac3enc.dll also comes bundled with BeSweet, which is a free audio conversion tool that supports audio conversion in various formats. The file ac3end.dll has a small file size of 44kb and the latest known DLL version is 1.0.0.0. The location of the module ac3enc.dll is commonly inside the BeSweet folder at C:/ Program Files/ BeSweet/ ac3enc.dll. When the ac3enc.dll module is deployed along with BeSweet it has quite a high memory usage of 3364 kb. The module ac3enc.dll is a background file since it is not seen graphically during deployment. Since the module ac3enc.dll is only intended for audio conversion it is not related to any hardware device and does not use up any network resources.
