Windows Process Description:

The batt.dll module or the battery class installer module is a file associated with the installation of the battery class driver. The latter is the support mechanism of all the Battery Miniclass Drivers and the Composite Miniclass Drivers. They, along with the battery class driver, are all files associated with the functions of Battery Management.

A battery has two types of drivers: the generic class driver that is provided by Microsoft, and the miniclass driver, which is specific for the type of battery, used. The class driver provides for the general functioning of the batteries and interacts with the power manager in the system. The miniclass driver handles specific functions such as the addition and removal of a battery, and the recording and tracking of the battery's charge and capacity.

All battery devices are included in the taxonomy of the battery class. The battery miniclass driver is the driver utilized for a certain type of battery or for Uninterrupted Power Supply or UPS device. A single computer or mobile device such as a laptop can have several kinds of mini class drivers due to that fact that it has different types of batteries.

Meanwhile, the composite Miniclass battery driver oversees and keeps track of the status of all the batteries in the system. Moreover, the composite battery device serves as the intermediary between the power manager and the battery class/miniclass drivers. When there is a sudden change in the battery status, the composite battery driver receives IRPs from the power manager and signals it back to the power manager. The IRPs refer to the I/O request packets and its functions codes that are used by the file system drivers and filter drivers.

In a system, there is only one battery class driver that houses the batt.dll module. The batt.dll module is registered under the trademark of Microsoft Corporation. This module considers itself harmless, as the batt.dll file is not a known malware or Trojan component. In addition, the low usage of virtual memory renders it to be unlikely to cause harm or damage to one's computer.

The batt.dll module is a critical component of the battery class driver, therefore it is not advisable to remove or delete said module. It has the file size of 8,704 bytes.
