Windows Process Description:

The counters.dll file is a plugin of the CnxManager application running in Windows. It is an action name needed by the CnxManager to launch actions when a network connection is activated. The network connection is either through LAN (Local Area Network) or modem.

The counters.dll module is associated with the following CnxManager application embedded actions:

* Time counter: This action needs the counters.dll module to identify the time you spent using a network connection either via LAN or modem.

* Traffic counter: The counter.dll modules helps this action to identify the traffic generated in a network connection.

* Internal redirections: These actions reminds you that your internet connection is not activated.

In .NET framework development programming the counters.dll module serves as the dynamic link library in creating an instance for the proxy class of a client code in web form. The counters.dll module is used to call the functions of the COUNTERS module found in Microsoft's IIS Resource Kit. It is necessary that this module is first registered on a web server before it is incorporated in web applications. By default, this counters.dll module is not installed when you install the Microsoft's IIS resource kit.

The counters component in Microsoft allow creating ,incrementing ,storing and removing the number of counters. If the counter object is already instantiated, the counter components are readily accessible. Remember that only one counter object is needed for the entire web site. The counter component includes the counters.dll module to create website counter variables that hold the value for every user application in the web site. If you have more than one application , the value of the counters created by these applications are saved in the web server's drive. Thus, if the web server session is restarted, the values of the counter variables stored are not changed.
