Windows Process Description:

The application Direct Draw, as a component of DirectX, incorporates an enhanced feature for 3D execution. This functionality is initiated by the d3drm.dll module, which runs the Direct3D Retained Mode.

Although considered an old technology, the Direct3D Retained mode function is still widely used for Visual Basic C++. The d3drm.dll file allows Direct3D to store 32 bits of application-specific data in any kind of Retained Mode object. As such, storage of information is optimized because information can be stored with each individual mesh of the application. At the same time, it can channel the information to each individual device related to the application.

In programming a retained mode application, the d3drm.dll module allows the programmer to use multiple types of objects in the same function. The file d3drm.dll is taken as a correlated component of IDirect3DRMObject, which defines the COM interface. This module has the characteristics of all objects defined for the system. Any object that has the IDirect3DRMobject as one of its parameters can be passed to the d3drm.dll file to execute Direct3D Retained mode functionalities.
