Windows Process Description:

With the advent of Microsoft's Media Center, many PCs have become virtual entertainment hubs and users are able to enjoy their digital photos, music and videos straight from their machine.

The ehiepg.dll file provides the interoperability components of Media Center. This DLL processes the digital video recording (DVR) features of Windows Media Center. It also enables parental control and allows for granular control of audio/video playback. The ehiepg.dll file implements across the Windows Media Center presentation layer application, a managed Microsoft .NET framework assembly. It thus provides applications full access to the .NET framework platform for developing applications to build, manage, deploy, and integrate with other networked systems.

In Windows Vista, the Media Center presentation layer gives users access to the same rendering technologies that are used to create the Media Center itself. Images and videos can be edited using the Windows Media Center Markup Language (MCML) that displays the user interface. Several processes are stored in the ehiepg.dll file to allow for parameterization, private local storage, data binding, animated visual content, and access to managed code assemblies. Other functionalities implemented on the Media Center presentation layer by the ehiepg.dll file, among other processes within the Interop module, provide dynamic layout capabilities, integrated animation support, rich text and graphics support, and automatic keyboard and remote navigation.

Implementation of the Xbox 360 also depends on the ehiepg.dll processes. The Xbox game console is a newly added feature of Media Center, which is included in the media center extenders released by Microsoft in 2005. These MC extenders are hardware devices that allow users to view the same content on the MCE computer over wire or wireless Ethernet. MC extender functionalities are utilized by the Xbox 350 to run HDTV support. The company Linksys and other IHVs developed Media Center Extenders, which are complemented by Microsoft's add-on kit for the Xbox game console, which enables it to function as an extender.
