Windows Process Description:

The Nero Burning ROM suite by Ahead Software was the first program to include the gcfx.dll module as an integral part of it.

The gcfx.dll module was included in the first version of the Nero Vision Express Suite. To date, the gcfx.dll file remains bundled with Nero's video editing tool.

Ahead Software has continued to develop several versions of their Nero CD and DVD burning software since 1975. Their flagship product, Nero Burning ROM, started out as a simple program for burning data on CDs and later for DVDs. The basic burning software evolved to become a major component of Ahead Software's Nero Burning ROM suite.

The latest version of the Nero Suite supports the following Microsoft Windows operating systems: Windows 98/SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server and Windows Vista.

The latest upgrade of the Nero suite is the Nero 8 Ultra Edition suite. It has a collection of more than 18 applications and it comes with three core tools for media editing; Nero WaveEditor, a sound editing tool, Nero PhotoSnap, a photo editing and manipulation tool and Nero Vision, a tool for video editing and manipulation. The other applications that come bundled with the suite compliment or enhance the features of the three core editing tools. Three examples of these added applications are, Nero SoundTrax 2, for mixing 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, Express 7 for disc burning, and Nero Recode for video conversions. All these applications require the gcfx.dll module to function.

The tools in the Nero suite can be launched from the familiar StartSmart application where common tasks are listed. This feature makes it very convenient to launch a Nero application without having to go to the 'start' button and search for a particular tool in the myriad list of programs. An example task icon would be, "Make a DVD Video". Simply clicking on the icon will launch Nero Vision.
