Windows Process Description:

The Easy Photo software provides high-end technology for photo editing, manipulation and storage. Its controls are handled by the EasyPhoto OLE2 Handler, which uses the handler.dll module.

The module handler.dll implements the tools in Easy Photo that are compatible with all types of Windows operating systems, including the lower versions Windows 3.x. The EasyPhoto OLE2 Handler offers easy to use controls that enable users to work on their photos minus the complexity usually experienced in other photo-editing software. It is easy to use and requires less computing resources.

Easy Photo is an evolution of the Storm's Photoflash, with better and less complicated controls. The task of storing photos is implemented on the handler.dll file by calling on EasyPhoto's Gallery folder. Photos are stored using a filmstrip. Once photos are downloaded to the Gallery folder, these can be embedded in a document by a simple drag-and-drop maneuver. Easy Photo is able to do this because it takes advantage of the capabilities of Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) technology. The handler.dll file initializes the OLE functions when the user calls on the drag-and-drop control in Easy Photo.

What makes Easy Photo different from other software is that it maximizes the more in-depth features of OLE2. It implements a custom handler based on OLE2 functionalities. The custom handler provides users with a utility for storing photos using a custom format (a JPEG). This leads to improved storage efficiency and allows users complete control over all rendering of images.

Storm was able to develop a new technology called ClearPrint based on the functionality of the custom handler. With added functions embedded in the handler.dll module, ClearPrint proved to be a forerunner in quality prints, with little or no difference between the image on display and the hardcopy. It is also compatible with various consumer level ink-jet printers.

The handler.dll file also contains functions used to execute the EasyPhoto Reader, a footprint, low-cost, feeder-based scanner for photos.
