The langwrbk.dll module is basically a DLL file associated with Microsoft Windows Operating System (OS) whose main function is that of an English Word Breaker.

As an English word breaker, the file langwrbk.dll performs linguistic analysis on full-text data by finding word boundaries, thus the term word-breaking. The rules for linguistic analysis differ among various languages. Word breakers for every language enable the use of more accurate terms for a specific language, as in the case of the file langwrbk.dll, which works within the boundaries of the English language.

In cases where there is a word breaker for the main language but not for specific sub-languages, the main language is used (i.e., for English Canadian, the langwrbk.dll file uses English as the main language). If, for instance, no word breaker is available for a particular language, the neutral word breaker is used, which means words are broken at neutral characters such as punctuation marks and spaces.

Microsoft SQL Server, a relational database management system (RDBMS) software, includes word breakers for 23 locales including the file langwrbk.dll. If one wishes for a localized version of a SQL Server, SQL Server Setup sets the default full-text language option to the language of the server if a suitable match is present. For a non-localized version of a SQL Server, the default full-text language option is English. Here is where the file langwrbk.dll comes into play.

Windows 2000, for example, uses the infosoft.dll word breaker while Windows 2003 and Windows XP use the langwrbk.dll word breaker, which can have different results for these characters in the search string. Hence, it is recommended that one use the neutral language word breaker, as this will provide better results in searching for these special characters. However, the drawback with the neutral word breaker is that one might lose some functionality of SQL Server, particularly the use of searching as the neutral word breaker "breaks" words based upon the blank space between the words.

The langwrbk.dll file is also related to the IWordBreaker software, which is basically a language-specific resource interface. IWordBreaker also utilizes the file langwrbk.dll as a word breaker that is able to identify individual words and phrases confined within the framework of the English language. The langwrbk.dll module is used in background processes.
