The file libflac_plugin.dll is a plugin for libFLAC that is incorporated into the VLC Media Player and the Miro Media Player, formerly known as the Democracy Player. The libflac_plugin.dll module is used by the Miro Media Player and VLC Media Player for its ability to add FLAC support in the programs. The VideoLAN Organization created the DLL file libflac_plugin.dll.

FLAC is an acronym for Free Lossless Audio Codec and it is an audio format similar to the MP3 format. The difference between FLAC and MP3 is that FLAC is lossless; which means that the will still retain its quality even if it is compressed. FLAC's compression mechanism is similar to the compression mechanism of ZIP, but different in a sense that FLAC provides better compression since it is ultimately designed particularly for audio files. With the FLAC support incorporated into the VLC Media Player and Miro Media Player by the libflac_plugin.dll DLL file, users of these media players are enabled to playback compressed FLAC files.

VideoLAN Organization created the VLC Media Player, which uses the libflac_plugin.dll. It is a multimedia player, streamer and encoder that are extremely portable. It has support for a variety of audio codecs, video codecs, a range of streaming protocols, CDs, VCDs, DVDs and many file formats. The VLC Media Player is also able to stream across networks and transcended multimedia files and then save them into a range of different formats. The VLC acronym used to stand for VideoLAN Client.

The libflac_plugin.dll DLL's version found in the VLC media Player is version 0.8.6a, while it has a file version of 0.9.0.2 when found in the Miro Media Player.
