The marscore.dll module is part of the PC Health utilities that come with Windows ME. It is used in creating the troubleshooting guides that come up when you are trying to diagnose a problem. For example, if you cannot dial out on your modem, the marscore.dll module may guide the steps and suggestions that you respond to.

Even though this version of Windows is fairly obsolete, it can cause some issues for users that use the upgrade version of Windows XP to modernize their systems. Among other things, users will get an error message that the marscore.dll module is missing, even though it is not required for the Windows XP operating system. While this problem may not stop you from using your computer, it can be very annoying.

For some reason, when individuals upgrade from Windows ME to Windows XP, the Pchealth.inf file is not modified to reflect this change. At the same time, the marscore.dll module is deleted from the system. Unfortunately, simply replacing the marscore.dll file may not fix the problem. You will need to trigger the pchealth.inf file to run, and then go through the prompts that will help you restore from the installation disks.

The other option for fixing this problem is to make sure that you purchase a full installation version of Windows XP. Next, back up any files that you want on your hard drive. Perform Fdisk followed by a reformat of your hard drive. Once you have accomplished that, simply install Windows XP onto the clean hard drive. While you will not be able to restore your computer to a previous version, at least you will not have any problems associated with marscore.dll.
