Windows Process Description:

The DLL mmcndmgr.dll contains COM interfaces and resources used by the Microsoft Management Console Node Manager. It is a component that provides system administrators and advanced users with a flexible interface through which they may configure and monitor the system.

Microsoft Management Console (MMC) is a framework that hosts administrative tools called snap-ins. Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000 use MMC, which displays snap-ins as consoles. These snap-ins are used to administer networks, computers, services, and other system components, and provide the actual management of the program.

The mmcndmgr.dll file is designed to perform a specific set of tasks on a specific type of application or object. A snap-in can be loaded into an MMC console to create a customized management environment. With the new Add/Remove capability provided in MMC 3.0, it is possible to create specific consoles that match the skill level and job description of the administrator who is the intended operator of the console.

The mmcndmgr.dll application provides a programming platform for creating and hosting applications that manage Microsoft Windows environments and provides consistent and integrated user interface. It is a shell application and a framework that individual administrative tools can snap into.

In the program file mmcndmgr.dll, the most productive MMC is Computer Management, which appears in the Administrative Tools folder in the Control Panel. It is actually a collection of MMC snap-ins, including the Device Manager, Disk Defragmenter, Internet Information Services, Disk Management, Event Viewer, Local Users and Groups, Shared Folders, and other tools. Computer Management allows monitoring and configuration of other computers on the local network that the user has access to.

MMC supports two types of snap-ins: the stand-alone snap-ins and snap-in extensions. Users can add a stand-alone snap-ins to a console without first adding another item. A snap-in extension is always added to a snap-in or to another snap-in extension that already exists in the tree.
