The file t1instal.dll is a module, which is geared to define format conversions between two significant types. Although Apple Computer had originally developed this module, since the module t1instal.dll was first implemented to the company's TrueType font application, the t1instal.dll module's utility has not been limited to cater only to Mac product software. The first version of this module was imposed originally for Windows NT.

The current developer of the t1instal.dll file's recent versions is Microsoft Corporation. Still performing its similar function, this library has been described by both of its publishers as Type 1 to TrueType Converter. TrueType is a standard font created to go against Aldus Adobe's Type 1 fonts. With the t1instal.dll module's utility, text compatibility and conversion has been made possible.

However, for the t1instal.dll module to work, manual registration is required. Registration is also important to activate the object linking and embedding (OLE) capability of the sector.
