Windows Process Description:

The vbacv20.dll module is crucial for transporting macros between Visual Basic 5.0 in to Excel and other programs. As you may be aware, a macro is a mini-program that can add an enormous amount of calculating power to spreadsheet and database files created within the Microsoft Office Suite. For the most part, you do not need the Visual Basic 5.0 compiler to create a macro. Rather, you can simply record a series of formulas right in Excel, and also eliminate the need for the vbacv20.dll file.

That said, there are times when you may want to have the robustness of a compiler to develop your macro. Or, you may want to extract the basis for these macros from another program. As a result, many macros are actually developed using the Visual Basic compilers.

Unfortunately, without the vbacv20.dll module, you would not be able to convert from a program format into a macro, and vice versa. In some instances, the vbacv20.dll module may be erased from your system when you uninstall Visual Basic 5.0. Typically, this occurs when you use the uninstall feature that is run from control panel.

For the most part, if you do not use macros, the deletion of the vbacv20.dll module will not interfere with the functioning of Office 97. On the other hand, if you want to import macros later on, you may need to find a way to reinstall the vbacv20.dll module. You can accomplish this by reinstalling Visual Basic 5.0, or you can simply reinstall Office 97.
