Since it uses low system resources while being extremely fast, Miranda IM does not require installation and can be made to fit on a single USB flash drive or a single compact disk.

Miranda IM is considered as a flexible and powerful instant messaging client because of its plugin-based framework. Its plugin-based framework has over 350 available plug-ins, one of which is the yahoo.dll module. The yahoo.dll module was exclusively designed for Yahoo!. For the Yahoo! Protocol to be activated in order to be used by Miranda IM, the yahoo.dll file may be utilized across all Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, be it Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, or Vista.

On April 7, 2005, the first version of Miranda IM to acquire the yahoo.dll file was released and was named Miranda IM Version 0.4. Another major change that was included in the official release of the file yahoo.dll was the removal of contact list and database module from the core into its plug-ins.
